I had lunch with my wife and decided to come to this place because I heard of this place as a referral. We ended up ordering a pineapple fried rice for the both us to share. The soup that they served to us was a typically msg soup and makes you thirsty The rice was OK for you to try but there was a piece of shrimp that tasted like old sea food and poisoned my taste buds and I immediately spit it out. I got a free thai tea. It was pretty good but missing the caffeine kick. I was tired after lol. Overall OK for the food and the thea was above average. Bad shrimp and obnoxious people give the restaurant a 3 star

Good food with good prices. I'd recommend the pad thai here.

Sad face. I've given this place several chances because it's close to my work, and sometimes I get that strong Thai jones. I've been searching and searching for good Thai in Mira Mesa, and unfortunately, the search is still on. This place consistently gets my order wrong when I phone it in. I could overlook that if their food was mindblowing, or even decent, but it's sadly not. Final straw for me was that at lunchtime, the rice was stale. Straight up crunchy, stale, like day old rice. C'mon. Not cool.

Horrible service . The waiter doesn't understand what I'm trying to order, so he walks away. So I finally just ordered something he would understand. Served everyone before us even though we were there first. This is a really really bad joke.

Absolutely delicious food. They waitress is extremely friendly as well. The decor is the only detractor to this place. The yellowish-green walls are not appealing but don't let that deter you from eating here. I would highly recommend this place to eat.
(4)Damon S.
Very fresh and tasty food. I came her for the lunch special and was not disappointed. I recommend this place if you like Thai food. It appears to be a small location but it is surprising much larger once you get inside. The customer service was great and if you check in using your Yelp App you can get a free ice team.
(5)Emily J.
Tofu pad thai was simple and very good! Loved the free thai iced tea as well!
(4)Krittakorn G.
Great service, very pleasant, and very delicious. Prices are reasonable. Will come again.

usually do to go from here. fast service. never disappoints!

Just ok. The vegetable soup is good and full of fresh veggies. The pad se ew is really dry and flavorless. We got it mild so maybe it lost something with the lack of spice. Wouldn't get again. BLAH The sweet & sour fish is great. The fish is nice and crisp and the sauce is tasty with some peppers and onions. It's a bit on the skimpy side with just a few pieces of fish. The fried rice was really wet and kinda weird. But it tasted ok. The eggrolls are great. Nice and crispy, Standard stuff. Probably frozen. The thai iced tea is really delicious. Average thai. Nothing special.
(3)Jenny C.
Tom Yum okay. But green curry was shit. Worst curry I had E-V-E-R! A huge thick layer of oil on top and throughout. I still took a bite and did not taste anything coconut or curry in it. So disgusting. Tossed that shit. I have never done that ever for thai food. DONT GO, DONT EVEN SEND YOUR WORST ENEMY HERE. THAT WOULD BE JUST TOO FREAKING EVIL.

Finally! I received the Carrot Top badge! Recently switched to new owner/management, Green Shallots is one of Mira Mesa's best Thai restaurant! Great location, authentic, friendly customer service & great food! The menu consists of all your standard Thai dishes. Noodles, soups, rice dishes and curries. The spice scale here is rated on a 1 to 5. I normally get a 2 and it still has a bit of a kick to it. Their Thai tea is pretty strong here, but I enjoy it! Also, check out their great lunch specials! Favorites: Roasted Duck Curry, Thai Tea and Sweet Mango Sticky Rice! Tip: Check-in each time to receive a offer for a free Thai tea !

I've been here a couple times and once at Spices Thai Cafe, which is in the same plaza and like this place a lot better. Granted I've never been here during normal lunch hours, the wait isn't bad and the service is a lot better and friendlier than it is at Spices. The food is great and affordable. I highly recommend it.

Cute little restaurant. Great customer service. Average pricing. Delicious food. Heat level is between 1-5.
(5)Naveen R.
Great place to get some food, whether you work around the many office complexes around the restaurant, or just feel the need to get Thai food delivered. I especially love their fish cakes and chicken satay for apps. I usually stick to the standard Thai curries (Green, Red, Panang or Masaman- which is my favorite) for entrees. Whether you dine in or get a delivery via Eat24, you're allowed to specify the heat levels so it fits your palate. Oh and don't forget to order yourself a Thai Iced Tea (delicious!).
(5)Eric G.
Their food is pretty decent but unfortunately, when I've called my order in, they've gotten it wrong two times. The first time I ordered a meal with tofu and they gave me pork and the second time they asked how spicy and I asked for a seven but they gave me a one. When they get the order right, the food is above average. I like the pad see ew and would recommend that dish. Just make sure that they give you what you ordered.

Whatttt...was in sd for a mini family vacay and was craving Siam Nara, but I dint want to spend that much money on lunch that day (odd I know lol). Anyways my husband told me about this place and I was very iffy about trying it because there are only a few thai places I actually like...although I LOVE thai food...there are only a few places I'd go to. Anyways...this place was soooo good! It's kind of a hole in the wall joint in a plaza surrounded by a bunch of other food spots. I guess this area is frequented by employees who work in the area. Their thai tea is bomb dot com! Its not too sweet and it is served in a little mason jar. The food was hella good as well! Great little thai joint to try if youre in SD!

2.5 stars. So, for starters, I already "checked in" for my free thai iced tea deal before realizing the "happy hour" special would negate that...this is awkward... While waiting for my food, I couldn't help but notice the fans were not securely fastened to the celling, causing me to watch them with apprehension as I worried that they might fall and decapitate me before my meal even arrived. On top of the swinging, it made a rhythmic creaking noise, detracting from the ambiance created by the thai equivalent of American elevator music and our awkward "booth", which is just a legless table with cushions pushed up against it. The server seemed pretty melancholy. Hopefully it wasn't because of us (?) -perhaps he's having a bad day... The cream cheese puffs were served piping hot, and we're pretty tasty. Can't go wrong with fried, stuffed wontons, generally. So far, the food is not impressive by any stretch of the imagination. It has been said that "quantity does not equate to quality", and that is especially true with the meals here. I ordered the Pad Ke Mow, or drunken noodles, with shrimp, which, as I eat, I notice are notably hotter than the noddles but still manage to be undercooked somehow. The sauce is not distributed equally, leaving some noodles to be extremely bland while others are overwhelmingly flavorful. The temperature is not consistent either, all in all, making for an average experience at best. My companion's ginger cod fish special was subtly flavored with a watery ginger sauce that required a lot more brown rice to eat than was provided. The cod was cooked delicately, but not strong on favor. The water is certainly not Voss water - but the extraordinarily bland tap water I found on my toothbrush this morning. Nevertheless, I'd be willing to try a fish dish one more time if I end up hungry, again, in this plaza. Co-written by Calamari Master

My friend Wendy wanted to meet up for dinner last night (and use her Groupon), so we met up at Green Shallots (formerly Amarin Thai) in the Sorrento Valley mall/food court. Pretty nice interior, though the double occupancy is a bit confusing (you check in at the left side and are seated at the right). We had the following: Crab Fried Rice, Tom Kha Soup (mixed seafood - cuttlefish, shrimp, mussels), Stuffed Chicken Wing (a fried chicken quarter stuffed with chicken and glass noodles; the mix is similar to Filipino embuitido), and the Crying Tiger (a sizzling dish of seasoned beef strips over a bed of mixed veggies). Additionally, we both ordered Thai Iced Teas, which were brought out in mason jars - these actually weren't too sweet like Thai iced tea tends to be, and in fact were quite refreshing. The food was actually pretty good; while Wendy thought the beef on the Crying Tiger was a bit salty, I thought it was pretty tender. (Side note: the family next to us were impressed with how the dish looked.) The Crab Fried Rice was straight up awesome, and the Tom Kha had a nice lemongrass and ginger flavor to it. The Stuffed Chicken Wing by itself would easily fill one up, and the sweet and sour sauce served alongside it was a nice complement to the dish. In terms of the spice level, Green Shallots' only go up to three, as opposed to Siam Nara's at five... but that three is pretty spicy! While certainly a tad on the pricy side, they do have lunch specials - and they're available on Saturdays! Definitely want to try those (and the calamari on the menu as well)!

I hadn't been to the plaza (about halfway down Mira Mesa Blvd.) where Green Shallots is located in awhile so I was a little surprised that the old Thai place was gone and that Green Shallots replaced it. We had found a Groupon deal online and wanted to try out a new Thai place so we ended up here on a weekend evening. It's in the same plaza as Spices, Subway, Knockout Pizza so parking can be a pain if you're coming here for lunch - dinnertime wasn't bad! It's a small location so there may or may not be a wait. We came a little earlier so we were seated right away. It's a little dark inside in the evening. They had a special of the month menu in addition to their regular menu, so we tried a few of their specials. Best decision ever! We ordered the Seafood Spicy Yellow Noodles (my favorite of the night!), the Pla Sahm Rod (so good), Papaya Salad, Tom Yum soup, and one other curry dish (can't remember which one now). The seafood yellow noodles were stir fried and had mussels, scallops, shrimp and calamari. The Pla Sahm Rod is a deep fried fish that was both spicy, sweet and sour - we were suggested this by our server and it did not disappoint. The sweet deep fried skin was my favorite. The curry dish was also really good but sadly I can't remember the name of it. They also have a Yelp check-in offer for Thai tea I believe but if you're using the Groupon deal, make sure to save the check-in offer for another time. I will definitely have to come back and try their other dishes. Wish this place was a little bigger and had more light in the evenings, but the food was delish! Hoping they continue having special of the month menus!

Thai food craving satisfied. Came here for the first time and ordered the Thai BBQ 1/2 Chicken, Spicy Noodles with Pork, and Crab Fried Rice. The bbq chicken wasn't quite what I expected. They should rename it to Crispy Chicken or something of that nature because that's essentially what it was. Don't get me wrong, it was good. The skin was very crispy, and it had some good flavor. I guess the part that makes it somewhat qualify as bbq would be the two sauces it came with for dipping. One was sweet chili sauce (which I liked) and the other was this other brown sauce that was too spicy for my liking. The Spicy Noodles were the wide noodles. We went for medium on the spice level, and they were actually pretty good. They reminded me of a drier Pad See Ew. The noodles were cooked perfectly (al dente). The meat was on the dry side though, but it didn't take away from the overall deliciousness of the dish. The Crab Fried Rice was nice. I was expecting them to use the fake crab, but to my pleasant surprise, they used real crab. Blue crab meat to be exact. It definitely had a crap-load of crab flavor! If I hadn't ordered other items, I would have been happy just eating the entire dish myself. For dessert we ordered the Fried Banana rolls. The were banana egg rolls drizzled with honey. Can't go wrong with these. I love banana egg rolls, so of course I thought they were yummy. The place is hole-in-the-wall small, with maybe less than a dozen tables. Service was satisfactory. The only complaint was from my friend who would have liked to see a kid's menu, since she had brought her 6-yr old. I will come back to try their Pad Thai--my only litmus test for any Thai place.

Pretty decent Thai food at a great price! We came here to order lunch to go and the lady taking our order was super sweet. Two lunch specials took about 10 minutes and were $6.95 each. The lunch special comes with a small side salad and a spring roll. We came during lunch time and they weren't too busy. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai which was the perfect level of spicy-ness and my friend ordered the Cashew Chicken. I was very satisfied at the end of my meal. Definitely will be back for lunch soon!

Cute little Thai restaurant located in the complex where Fresh & Easy is located. It's located with all the other restaurants so pretty easy to find. There's a lot of parking but I can definitely guarantee that it can get pretty rough during lunch rush hour. It's a pretty small restaurant but it doesn't lack in service or taste. Even though we had only one server, she was very attentive and I never felt like she neglected us. They have a very large assortment of choices from wok's, noodles, curries, and fried rice. They also have your typical Thai soup (Tom Yum! mmmm). Depending on what kind of toppings you want (chicken, calamari, etc) the prices can range between $10-$14. Also, if you check in, you can get a free 20oz Thai Iced Tea! :) 4/5 from our party got it and she didn't huff and puff like most places do. I definitely recommend coming here for a quick fix for Thai food!
(4)MJ S.
This place is an okay thai place for us. I wouldn't recommend the chicken larb, or seafood noodle salad. However, the crispy pork with chinese broccoli, pad see ew noodles, crab fried rice are decent.

First time here and it won't be our last ! Ambiance: Located in a small shopping center near other stores/restaurants. Plenty of parking. Place is teeny tiny compared to other Thai restaurants I've been to ! It wasn't busy for a Saturday night. Pretty dead actually. Good or bad ? At first, we were skeptical. Restrooms located outside (I had to ask). Kinda spooky going through a narrow alley way to get there and a dark parking lot is at the end. EEK !! Talk about PISS and RUN !!! O.o Service: Awesome customer service !!! Looks like one waitress and one cook were manning the restaurant. Upon arrival, there were still leftover dishes/glasses on tables that hadn't been cleared out. We were immediately greeted by a nice lady and she seated us promptly. Throughout the service, she was full of smiles and it really made our experience a pleasant one. Menu: $30 groupon for $15 !! Sweet ! Total bill was $3 and some change. Mixed Vegetable soup in clear broth hot pot - Nice presentation and the broth was light and delish ! I love simple dishes like this. The veggies were crisp and fresh and the overall soup was perfect for a cold evening. I would order this again ! Perfect for sharing ! Som Tum (papaya salad) - Shredded green papaya, peanut, green bean and tomato mixed with chili and lime juice - I really enjoyed this dish ! For a 4/10 heat it was quite spicy, but I like spice ! It was very flavorful and light. It came with raw cabbage that I ended up placing in the hot pot since I preferred cooked cabbage. Bf ordered a steamed cod with no spice basil sauce and veggies dish from the 'Special of the Month' menu. He enjoyed it and found the proportion just right. He found it 'YUMILICIOUS' and gave it a THUMBS UP !!! Totally forgot to check-in via yelp for the free Thai Tea. Boo ! Next time ! Overall, we were quite satisfied and full !! I am worried that they don't have enough staffing. I wonder if it is like this on a busy day. Imagine the wait time !

As soon as I arrived at Green Shallots, I realized that I'd been here before when it was under a different name (Amarin Thai). We had a $30 Groupon so we went all out with ordering. We each got a cup of Tom Kah and I was pleased to learn that I could get the soup without mushrooms. Then I ordered the Beef Pad See Ew and my guy got the Spicy Noodles with tofu. Finally, I added a delicious Thai Iced Tea to my order. The soup was flavorful and much easier for me to enjoy without having to dodge chunks of mushrooms. The pad see ew tasted good as well; I have no complaints! I even tried a bite of the Spicy Noodles and thankfully found them to not be too spicy, as I'm a giant wuss! :) Our waiter was great and I appreciated that he understood my request for no veggies in my pad see ew. He even said that he prefers it that way too.

We stopping in for a quick dinner. This cute little Thai place is located in the Mira Mesa food court in the same shopping center as Fresh and Easy and Bevmo. Look for the Subway and it's inside the foot court amongst the picnic tables. We were the only couple in the restaurant until several more couples came in about 30 mins later. We ordered the Tom Kha Soup (tofu), Pad See Ew (pork), Crab Fried Rice and the Pad Thai (chicken). There are 3 levels of spice - no spice, medium or spicy. We ordered a medium for all 4 dishes and they were just the right level of spice for us. Our fave entree was the crab fried rice. Our server said that it was one of their most popular entrees and it was new. Highly recommend! The food is tasty and surprisingly inexpensive. Our meal was $35 not including a nice tip. Service was friendly and attentive, and we are fans! We will definitely come back. Yelp check in offer - Free Thai Ice Tea!
(5)Luca B.
Ordered delivery and all the food is quite sub par. I will not order from here again. Pad Thai, Tom Ka, Green Curry (was the best thing, but it's just ok), dumpling app, fried rice.
(2)Addy M.
Food is okay; rating 1 star coz they started trolling on the free Thai tea.. Earlier, they used to give the regular Thai Iced tea for Yelp check-in; now they give this tasteless Iced tea!! Which they anyway sell for just 99¢
(1)Dimple B.
I really, really wanted to like this Thai restaurant. It replaced another Thai restaurant (we miss you, Amarin!) and I was hoping that maybe the name was just different and they actually had the same cooks. Not the case. We were led here through a good deal on Groupon, which is actually still going as of today (2/27). We ordered some fried calamari rings to start, which came out really fast. Almost too fast. They looked and smelled good, but it wasn't like other fried calamari I've had. First of all, the outside looked like the breading of a mozzarella stick. And then the inside was rubbery and weird. I couldn't take just a bite of the ring without the entire casing falling off. Kinda reminded me of onion rings. There was some mystery meat in that calamari. I was pretty excited about my spicy fried rice, which also came out quickly, and had a heaping portion. BF got pad thai and that also was a large portion. The pad thai was good, but my rice tasted off. It didn't taste bad; it tasted kind of stale. Like they'd maybe made the rice days ago and just fried it with some veggies and tofu. The "medium" spicy wasn't spicy at all, and I was hoping they'd have some sauces to add on top, but they did not. I did have leftovers that I ate the next day with some soy sauce, and that actually tasted better than the dining-in experience. Overall, I think I'd come back. Their lunch specials seemed promising and the pad thai was good, so maybe their speciality leans towards noodles. And, the host and server were very nice. Hopefully next time the food packs more of a punch.

Got lunch to go, was unbelievably slow. Promised 10 minutes, took 25 minutes. Food was ok but not that impressive considering the price.
(1)Dale S.
I've passed by this Thai restaurant a few times because I usually get gas at the Shell nearby, so I've always wanted to check it out during my lunch break. Before driving over, I checked out the restaurant's website and I noticed they have a lunch special until 3pm on the weekends. I drove over around 2:30pm in hopes of getting some of that lunch special, but the lady told me they don't have a lunch special on the weekends. Uhhh... okay. I didn't mind that much. The lady asked if I wanted to dine in or order to go, and since I had an hour lunch break, I decided to dine in. The lady, however, said the restaurant closes at 3pm so I had to order to go. I thought to myself, but your website and Yelp page said it closes at 9pm on Sundays... and why would you ask me if I wanted to dine in in the first place? I was kinda irritated at this point. I ordered the pad see ew w/ tofu and a side of crispy calamari since I haven't eaten anything all day. The portions were generous; I still have leftovers for dinner. But the taste... where's the flavor? From all the Thai places I've been to, pad see ew usually has a lot of taste, but for this one... not so much. I was lowkey disappointed. The calamari was decent. I give this place 2 stars mainly because of the lacking food taste and the inconsistency between what is displayed on the internet and the actual store hours.
(2)Ivy N.
My second time being here and although they were short staffed both times, the staff was very attentive and checked back on us frequently. The food, however, was a hit or miss with us. My mother ordered a crab fried rice both times she came and the first time it was amazing; full of flavor and well cooked. But this time the crab wasn't even mixed into the rice. They also have a specials portion in the menu and both times we ordered from it, we were disappointed. They were unique dishes but they just didn't fit our flavor palettes. Their traditional Thai dishes were very spot on though. They have such rich and bold flavors and they tasted authentic so we will definitely be back to try more of these! ***REVISED EDIT*** Went from a 4 to a 2 star review because we just got our check and they automatically charged us a gratuity fee when we only had a party of 5, is that even legal?!
(2)Lauryn C.
The food is good. This review is about the service they use to process online orders. I had a 1 hour window to get my lunch, eat it and make an afternoon meeting. I placed the order via Yelp and paid online. After the payment processed a screen appears saying the order was being fulfilled by Eat24. I arrived at the restaurant 20 minutes after I placed the order (wait time was 15-20) and they had not even received my order from Eat 24 yet. She had to call the company directly to to confirm the order and that my payment was already submitted. Lucky for me the restaurant was fast and I didn't miss my 12pm meeting, but I will probably not use the order online service via yelp/Eat24 again.
(3)Allison M.
Food is just alright and the customer service is terrible. The employees are rude and unhelpful. You would be better off with another Thai place. In fact there is one (Spices Thai Cafe) in the same plaza so don't bother with this place.
(1)Dung N.
I didn't know that this place took over Amarin Thai! They were so happy to see us dine here and were super friendly. The server recommended the whole fish special, but we were in the mood for something else. We ordered the papaya salad (Lao style), beef salad, sticky rice, spicy noodles, and pad cha pork wings. We also got free iced tea in mason jars for checking in. The portions were pretty huge and spicy level was spicier than I thought! You can hear the other customers choking and coughing lol. Even my nose was a little runny from the spices, but it was so good. The pad cha pork wings were really tender and the sauce was very flavorful. I didn't really like the sticky rice- some parts were hard like a rock. Too bad, because I love that stuff. We were too full to get dessert, so I guess we will have to try some next time!
(4)Krystal D.
I love the pad Thai! It's all I've ever gotten, both in chicken and veggie. I usually call in for pick up and the food is always ready as promised. They use payment apps that send coupons :)
(5)Rosand W.
This place used to be Amarin Thai, but it seems like the owner and chef was changed. I ordered the pork Pad Thai spicy level 2 (levels are 1-5 here). I figured that I'll try the lower level and add more chilli later. The food was way too sweet. The chef used too much tamarin sauce in the dish and didn't add enough fish sauce. I asked for the condiments and added a bunch of fish sauce to it to try to make it saltier and spicier, but the sweetness was still too strong. I redeemed the free Thai ice tea and that was pretty good. My boyfriend said that it was too sweet though (but I have a sweet tooth for my drinks and deserts so I thought it was fine). The waitress was very friendly and made recommendations for dishes that we might like for our future visits. However, we wouldn't be going back because the food is too sweet for me.
(2)Melissa L.
I wish I could give this restaurant a 3.5 stars because that would be more accurate. I got tom ka soup. The broth was amazing tangy and flavorful. It had delicious shrimp but I did not like the ginger or onions in the soup. I also got the crab fried rice which tasted delicious but there where a few pieces of shell. Last the crying tiger. Which was very good delicious prices of steak and veggies but the sauce on the side where way to salty. Also when ordering I has a little difficulty telling them what I wanted and the food took longer than I thought it would but I skipped breakfast and was really hungry for lunch so that might be part of the reason to. So there where good and bad points to this lunch. I had a groupond and they also let me use the yelp check in offer for Thai tea but I was not extremely impressed with the tea.
(3)Kelley N.
My friend and I went here for a quick lunch earlier today and I was pretty satisfied with the overall experience. Overall, it's a pretty small place and you can either dine in or order to go. The waitress was really nice! She offered recommendations and was attentive. We also got free Thai tea thanks to the check in on yelp and it was so good. It wasn't too sweet, just the right amount of condensed milk. You can't use the check in offer with the groupon by the way. Both of us got chicken panang curry with white rice. I asked for spicy (a 7/10 on the scale) because I'm someone who enjoys eating super spicy food (and I mean REALLY spicy food), and I was glad I went with "spicy" instead of "extra spicy." It was just the right amount of spiciness, not bland and not burning either. The curry is not thick or creamy like other places, but more liquidy. It had a lot of chicken and carrots, which was great. I wouldn't mind coming back here another time if I'm in the area!
(4)Chris J.
$6.95 for Chicken Spicy noodles (lunch special). Money. Only been here during weekday lunch hours, and service hasn't been an issue. Parking is what you'd expect for a busy strip mall in the middle of a bunch of offices.
(5)Jayson D.
Loved the lunch special deals :)) The servings are pretty generous. My wife got the green curry with beef, spicy level one. The dish was a little on the spicy side but not too bad. And I got the spicy basil pork, (ground) asked for ground pork. It was great! I'm a big fan of sa be lee's spicy pork basil but their serving is not that generous. Here it's pretty generous. Overall nice little hole in a wall kind of restaurant, in this small little plaza. The server we got was really nice and friendly. Very good service. Would come back again. Update as of 04/17/15. They raised their lunch special and I couldn't get my ground pork Thai basil. With that said I'm giving them a 3 star. It's only been 9 months since we came here last. And we would like the have old menu back and the old prices for lunch special. Now the lunch special are not so special anymore.
(3)Carol T.
Located in a small "food court" in the Fresh & Easy plaza towards hotel end. This place is tiny and from what I can tell, only has one server which can make the service a bit slow sometimes. The three times I've been there, it was the same waitress and she's super nice. Props for her for running the floor by herself! We ordered the pad thai and tom yum hot pot both with chicken. Let's just say I've had better...? The pad thai was very chewy for some reason and a little bland. My boyfriend said it was mediocre. And the tom yum soup was super sour and lots of big chunks of lemongrass mixed in. All in all, I would only come back because it's convenient and close to home.
(3)Rich H.
I dined in and I had the Massamam Curry with Steamed Rice. On a 1-5 spice scale I asked for a 1 and it still had a kick to it. The service during my meal was very active and the staff was really friendly & knowledgeable . Reasonable wait time for both my entree (Curry Puff Spinach) which I recommend as well. Generous portions as well
(5)Curt B.
Came here for the1st time, wow! Great Food, 5 star service, the whole family is very friendly and eager to serve, good patio seating outside, nice clean decor on the inside. The Tom Yum and Tom Kha are excellent, just like the quality I had in Thailand. Papaya salad was delicious, as well as the Pad Thai, they have lot's of vegan dishes and serve fresh Tofu in the place of meat. Can't wait to try the Crying tiger next time. If you like Thai food, Green Shallot is a must on your list in San Diego. Prices are very reasonable, portions of food is generous!
(5)Lisa Marie d.
I ordered delivery on the Eat24 app & the only reason why they got 2 stars is because of the convenience of ordering through an app and the quick delivery. I ordered a Tom yum soup with Shrimp, a Panang Curry with Shrimp, and a sweet rice with mango. Tipped $5 with a delivery fee. That came out to $33.97. The portions were okay, but I can't really judge that because it was in to go boxes. The Tom yum was flavorful but the lemon grass was hard, there was too much ginger, and TWO shrimp. It was a little salty too. The Panang Curry was so salty, it was inedible. The sweet rice with mango, which is my absolute favorite dessert, was terrible. It was hard in some parts, mushy in others, not sweet at all, and the mango tasted old. I wouldn't order take out from them again, I should've just went with pizza.

Just meh, about 2.5...took FOREVER to get service to start with...once the table of two next to us got their 6 plates of food, things got a little better. granted there was only one lady waiting tables on a sunday night with a good 6 tables, but she was nice at least. Once we did get our food, it was much spicier than I expected/asked for but it wasn't unbearable so it was still good. I had the green curry- which yes, someone mentioned was oily- but mine was still tasty with LOTS of veggies which I loved. The bf had the cashew nut curry which was definitely not lacking of cashews- very tasty and quite sweet. Overall, I'd say go to Spices on the other side of the strip mall.

This thai restaurant neatly tucked in the middle of the food court (behind subway and the fountain, next to Indian tandoor restaurant). On a quiet Sunday night there were two other tables besides my own. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated, neatly kept, and decently clean. Under the spotlight, however, the plates appear less than spotless. Given that I am by no means OCD/clean freak status, I had to swap out three of the other plates until I found one I'm satisfied with... By satisfied I meant no little specks of god-knows-what or dried up rice... No bueno. Moving on. SERVICE One waitress. Service is as good as can be expected given such understaffing. Fairly attentive. FOOD CRYSTAL SALMON PAD THAI ($12.95): grilled salmon steak on top of crystal pad thai noodles. So crystal pad thai turned out to be the rounder, thinner, vermicelli noodles which I'm less fond of. I can't comprehend why it's necessary to swap out the original pad thai noodles which would have added to the texture of the dish. On top of that (pun intended), the salmon steak was definitely grilled on the very well-done side.. Definitely making some special requests regarding this dish in the future. PINEAPPLE FRIED RICE (chicken $7.95): I've always been fond of pineapple anything. This ones no different, it's got the whole enchilada (carrots, eggs, raisins, onions, cashews, green peas, curry powder) and plenty of pineapples. Yay! Overall, decent experience. Pros: -Good portion! With decent food quality. -Clean location -Not too busy -Standard pricing -Plenty of parking spaces Cons: -Plate hygiene!!! -Understaffed Will be back to check out the rest of the menu! Cheers!

I had heard about this place before and so I wanted to try it out. When I got there I was a little confused that there were two doors right next to each other but realized that they were connected. Coming in i was happy that I could redeem my thai tea and the Thai tea was really good. The food here was really good too. I got the spicy noodle with shrimp and I was glad that I was able to get something that could accommodate my dietary needs. The only thing I didn't like was that it was a little more moist than I expected but it was fresh and tasted great. I also really thought the waitress was really attentive and very nice. I definitely will be coming back here and trying something else!

This used to be my go to Thai place for takeout, but I've found that their quality has decreased while prices have been hiked up. This place used to be a great deal, but given the recent price inceases I think that there are better Thai places in the area at the same price point. Most recently, my boyfriend and I both ordered pad thai with tofu for take out. First issue is that there is a language barrier, which makes calling in an order rather annoying. I dealt with this for several orders without thinking too much of it, but it really is start to bother me that they insist on asking for my phone number but never get it right the first time, which results in me repeating it to them multiple times. Second issue was the portion size we received. We were sadly surprised when we opened our take out boxes at home and found them half full with about 6 1x1/2x1/2in pieces of tofu each. The portions were disappointingly small, and even after sharing some of my dish with my boyfriend he had to heat up some more food at home to feel full. I can't remember having this issue in the past. I will also comment that the tofu portion is rather scarce and we asked them if they could be more generous with it, but they told us that we would have to pay an extra charge. I get the feeling that this place could use some lessons in running a business. Giving a little more food so that people feel satisfied with their meal seems like a better strategy than saving a few cents on one sale but never having the customers return. I think that the food itself isn't anything special. It usually hits the spot for Thai food, but isn't impressive. Often their dishes are overly oil and frequently under flavored. I found it to be rather inconsistent as sometimes I would order a dish that would have way too much sauce and my boyfriend would not have enough. I think given the recent changes I have experienced here, I will not be coming back. Good thing there are plenty of other Thai places in Mira Mesa that can be my new go to spot.

One of the best Thai places for the price you pay! This place never has a line, prices are always less than $10/entrée, and they always offer some type of deal. More of the recent ones I've seen are MOGL, groupon, and free thai iced tea with a yelp check-in. I would suggest the yellow curry with chicken, spicy noodles with beef, and the satay. Thanks!

Wow! First time here and I am so impressed with this place. I came at my lunch break and although it was busy they managed to have my order in 10 minutes (even though they estimated 15 minutes)! I got the red curry with tofu lunch special which came with a salad, an egg roll and dipping sauce. While I thought it was kind of strange to have a hot peanut sauce on a cold salad, it was all delicious and I ate every bite. I'd say there was just the right amount of rice for a lunch portion but my god they gave so much curry to go with it (which is a HUGE plus!) that I ended up saving about 1/3 of it for later. Bonus points for frying the tofu without me even remembering to ask. I really dislike when places serve boring, warm tofu without the crunchy outside but Green Shallots cooked it to perfection. For a fast and delicious $6 lunch, you bet I'll be coming back here soon!

One of my favorite Thai lunch spots. The spicy fried rice with chicken or the Panang curry are my go-to choices.

Came here for dinner on Sunday night at 7:00pm. This place is located in the food court of the center. Was greeted by a friendly host. It was a bit vacant so we picked our table. FOOD Calamari - We ordered this as an appetizer. The dipping sauce was delicious. The calamari though was over fried and came out really crunchy. You could only taste the batter. Crying Tiger - This was my dish. It was slices of steak and veggies on a clay plate. It came out sizzling. I ordered sticky rice with it. The steak was very well marinated. I was definitely a fan. The sticky rice was okay. It was sticky but not to the perfect texture that I like. Pad Thai Noodles w/ Chicken - My boyfriend and brother ordered this and the noodles were really skinny. I am used to a bit of a thicker noodle but it was tasty. They ordered a level 1/5 but I am sure we could have handled more. Spicy Noodles w/ Chicken - My mom ordered this and the noodles looked bland but the dish actually had a lot of flavor. I liked it. Duck w/ Mushrooms - I forget what it was called but my dad got this. I did not get to try it but he did not like it. He said there was a weird scent to it. Maybe it was the duck. 3 stars for the food. It was just okay. An extra star for the service. Our waitress/hostess was SO SWEET. She was very friendly, made eye contact, and just made our meal that much better.

The seafood is really fresh. Our server was very friendly and helpful. Average portions. I would go back again
(4)Jennifer S.
Food is decent. Like the yellow curry lunch special. The appetizers are hit and miss. Ordered the satay one time and it was dried out like chicken jerky. Today there was no Thai tea at the beginning of the lunch crowd. Poor planning!

We ordered pad see ew, spicy fried rice and tofu/ vegetable rolls, and fish cake. Peanut sauce didnt taste normal/ authentic - had a funny taste. The waitress tried to tell me it was more authentic but i havent tried such a type of peanit sauce before. The spicy rice didnt have much flavor and was clumpy and not well seasoned. You could still see the parts of the rice that was white where the sauces hadnt mixed into it. The water tasted funny. The pad see ew, the veggie spring rolls and fish cakes were good. tip: 3/5 for spiciness is more spicy than normal. Our food was too spicy.

This little gem is hidden away in a hard-to-find (at least for me, since I am not from this neighborhood) strip mall. My green curry was very, very spicy (as I had requested) and quite tasty - as good or better than any green curry I've had in this town. The spiciness was perfectly offset by the starchiness of the rice and sweetness of my Thai iced tea. My friend's duck entree was generous with the duck and full of fresh, brightly colored vegetables. I am eager to try some additional menu items on my next visit. The young lady at the counter was courteous and efficient, and the guys working the kitchen were really hustling to get those plates out to their hungry customers. You can tell that they are the real deal - legit Thai chefs who are making the food they know, from home. This is not a fancy place; it is a clean, pleasant, cafeteria-looking joint that happens to serve up some authentic, tasty and very reasonably priced Thai food. That works for me!

Love the Green Shallot Express in Kearny Mesa, but it closed on Sunday, so decide to give this place a try since it has the same name. I have the spicy noodles with mock duck and my bf has the chicken padseeew. The noodles on both dishes are very good but the meats are bleh, no taste at all. They could have coated the meat with more sauce or marinade the meats ahead of time. The service is good and I get a free Thai tea with Yelp. It's good Thai tea. But will go back to the other Green Shallot, I think the dishes is $1 less than here. The price here is reasonable compare to other Thai restaurants.
(4)Cory S.
Ordered the crab fried rice. Food was good. But if ordering by phone total no go! Had to order through the eat 24 app because of the language barrier. And they didn't deliver the drink that I ordered and got charged for....
(3)Timm L.
The curry pops with spinach appetizer is delicious. Thai fried rice is decent. Spicy seafood noodle from their special menu comes with a lot of seafood. Thai tea is also free with check in.

This thai restaurant was amazing! Came here around dinner time. We were seated right away and the service was outstanding. Our waters were always filled. We ordered pad Thai, Tom kha soup, chicken dish, and papaya salad. Everything was so good and tasted so fresh! The papaya salad was amazing..seriously! The leftovers even tasted better the second day and leftovers never taste that good! It's totally worth coming here! The prices are very reasonable, I found that it's cheaper than other thai places in San Diego and you get a lot of food!

Tom Yum Soup is very good but not quite authentic Thai. I spent two months in Thailand so know how it should taste. Still, very tasty.
(5)Julia C.
I ate here with some friends a while back. The food was good and came out quickly, but it took a long long time for us to get our food boxed and receive the check. There was a free Thai tea offer with check-in, so that was nice!

As somebody who had lived in Thailand for 3 and a half years, I would like to say I know a little bit of what authentic Thai food tastes like. That being said, this restaurant comes very close to Thai food. I have tried many Thai places in San Diego, and nowhere is as good as here. My family ordered Tom Yum seafood, Som Tum, Green Curry with Chicken, Kra Pao Moo Krob, Spicy Catfish, Garlic and Pepper Roasted Duck, Tom Yum Seafood: Delish! It has perfect amount of sourness - which is where most restaurants go wrong on. The seafood comes with fish (i believe, tilapia), shrimp and clam. Som Tum: We did #3 on spicy scale. Oh boy! It can get you. It comes with a slice of cabbage which was very interesting. If you are not a spicy eater, choose 1 or eat it with rice to tone down the spice. I wish it comes with tiny crabs like it usually does in Thailand. Ah well. Green Curry with chicken: I didn't pay attention much to this dish. But my family said that it was great. It comes in a bowl with bamboo, peppers and chicken. Kra Pao Moo Krob: this dish had more peppers (red and green) than necessary. Nevertheless, the sauce along with basil leaves makes the dish just great. The meat is not traditional ground pork. It has chunk of pork. Spicy Catfish: Out of all the dishes, this one is the most worthy of its price. You are only paying $11, and you get roughly 4-5 giant pieces of catfish. I tried to make these at home; they are hard. You have to fry them first, and put them in special sauce. Really, I would recommend everybody to get this dish. Garlic and Pepper Roasted Duck: pretty similar to Kra Pao Moo Krob. I just want to say that this place is amazing. But, I realize most people are not familiar with authentic thai food. If you are one of those people, you may not be able to handle the taste.

Good place but used to be even better when it was Amarin. The curries are no longer the same and some oldies like Thai Sausages are gone. But the fish is still good and the service is still friendly. Recommended.
(4)Yenith L.
Amazing papaya salad! Great Thai iced tea. Small hole in the wall place but definitely worth the visit and worth the price.
(5)Melissa T.
You can't go wrong with delicious reasonably priced cuisine. I recommend the shrimp panang curry or duck padseeew.
(4)Maria L.
nice and clean atmosphere.., the waiter was nice too, food was good & servings are quite generous, we were just wondering why the place wasn't packed?! i guess this area/mall is normally quiet at dinner time?? i would definitely go back though
(5)Garrett M.
I was originally going to give this place only three stars because there service, or I should say, complete lack of service was horrible in the beginning and had no idea why since the place was empty. I soon figured out why about 10 minutes later. Apparently the table in front of us order everything on the menu. Ok, I lied, but the two people ordered 3 dishes each and looked like separate appetizers as well. No joke and with the small kitchen staff, it created a pretty big back-up. Was they got their food, the mood quickly changed. I got the Cashew Curry at a level 2 out of 5 spice wise and glad I didn't go with the 3 because it was pretty spicy. I was very surprised at how good it was and there must have been 30 or so cashews on my plate. Not bad if you are in the mood for decent curry but may want to look elsewhere if they are busy since you will be there for awhile.

Most places can't do Pad Thai noodles wrong but this place does. Man! This was our spot back in the day when it was Amarin but I guess they sold it... now the menu's different. Well, more just tastes different. We don't plan on coming back here. ugh! RIP Amarin! My hunay and I will miss you dearly! Also, a man sitting next to our table complained to the waitress that their chicken was cold. um, that's not good either.

Love the pad thai and papaya salad! They give great portions and the food is delicious!
(4)Alisa C.
Good place for lunch in Mira Mesa area! Good food with good price! Remember to check in and get a free Thai tea~~
(4)Secret G.
This place is just awesome! Keep thinking on their specialty menu even I just had it couple days ago! Love their Pork Deluxe and Panang Curry with duck~
(5)Carolina L.
I ordered the fresh shrimp spring rolls and was not satisfied with the dish. There was literally one whole shrimp in one spring roll. They sliced the shrimp in half to make it seem like two shrimps were in one... The two spring rolls cost me around 7 bucks. I honestly could have gotten it for 3 bucks elsewhere. The dipping sauce was good but the roll itself was not.

My boyfriend, our families, and all of our friends have been loving this place ever since it was Amarin Thai Cafe. Sadly, the owner had to sell it and it is now Green Shallot. The food quality is very similar, with just a couple changes to the menu. The decor has also changed but still upheld the same classy Thai feel. The reason I give this place 2 stars is primarily because of the price changes. My boyfriend and I love Thai food, and although Siam Nara is closer to where we live, Green Shallot is like home. We love coming here and getting different plates, but I always start with their delicious Tom Yum Soup! One evening, we saw that we were overcharged a few dollars, so we casually mentioned it to our server assuming it was an honest mistake. She replied with "Our prices have raised..". Raised the price of some of the dishes by a dollar? Fine, understandable. But two extra dollars for 5 tiny slathers of chicken in a small bowl of soup? We could have took her to town with this. But since it was only a couple of a dollars and she wasn't fluent in English, we agreed to pay. However, this is a criminal offense. Restaurants are NOT allowed to charge customers HIGHER than the posted price. And no where on the menu did it say they were changing the price to be $2 higher than what is posted. Will they charge their customers LESS when they are able to afford lower prices? Highly doubt it. So we no longer support this restaurant. It is delicious, but if they are having a hard time finding business, raising the prices without updating the menus is not the way to do it. That is a cheap, deceitful way to cheat money out of loyal customers. Hopefully they have updated their menus by now.

Had dinner here last night with my family the food wasn't good. Ordered chicken skewers , sweet and sour chicken , chicken fried rice , and spicy rice plus pork belly. Food was served pretty cold my sweet and sour chicken had a Nasty after taste as if the meat was sitting out for a while. I'm never returning to this restaurant but giving 2 stars because the server was kinda sweet. P.s a lot of their food is drenched in oil.
(2)Carol J.
Pretty decent place for lunch. Sometimes spices in their dishes can be inconsistent. You ask for mild and it comes out super duper spicy with extra pepper floating on top. Also I think the portion improved a bit. For a long time, their lunch portion is very small and leave you still hungry. And I'm known for always having to pack leftover to go. If I'm still hungry, you know how small the portions are.
(3)B G.
Came here because I bought a groupon. Took forever to get our food, my shrimp was chewy, the cheese wontons were dark brown almost burnt, this is nothing special. I wouldn't return.

I swear this place keeps changing ownership and design. I love my Phad Thai noodles. I saw under chef specialties salmon steak with crystal phad thai noodles. It looked super good on paper. I asked what the spicy level was between and they said 0-5. Usually at places its 1-10. This made it hard for me to figure out if a 4 would be too spicy or not because in a 1-10 scale I'll usually get a 6 which has a good amount of kick. But I didn't know if the 4 was closer 5 or 3. I asked if they thought it was spicy, and the only answer I got was "its not spicy for me" I just thought that was a rude answer, and almost a challenge. So I ordered the 4. When I got my food, I noticed the salmon was dry and over cooked, the noodles were okay, and the spicy level wasn't out of control. In general the food was alright, but nothing that stood out to me.
(4)Jen L.
The 3 flavored fish is delicious. You could choose between tilapia or sole. We chose the sole. I did not care for their Pad Thai though. The noodles were clumped together and the beef tasted off.
(2)Lawrence P.
This place is a hidden gem! I ordered the lunch special of beef spicy Thai fried rice, egg roll, and salad...for $6.95. They had a good selection for the lunch special and the portion I received was very generous. They could of put a little more beef in the fried rice but I still left satisfied. I'll probably go back and try other entrees but for now this place is above average plus it's very close to the house. Tip: if going for lunch, try to get there before noon. We got there around 11:30 and no one was there but us. As we were leaving, every table was taken.
(4)Lei L.
Purchased Groupon deal to try it out, was hesitant coz the place was empty when we got there around 5-6 pm Sunday night. But the food was just awesome!! Tom yum soup, pineapple fried rice, sweet and sour fish cooked to perfection:) ... Not very impressed with crab fried rice:( not very crabby since they only put it on top, unlike other Thai resto..... But I will definitely go back for more Tom yum:)
(4)Kate B.
Found this place because of groupon, and was a little put off because I couldn't use it on my take out, and its a little out of the way, but the food is DELICIOUS! Spicy noodle with seafood combo, pad thai with veggie and calamari appetizer. Perfect seasoning, very authentic, and friendly staff! Everyone is raving and we will be back! Even the takeout containers are adorable! Can't wait to go back and use our groupon!
(5)Anonymous A.
Good for lunch. Very affordable. Yelp always has a free Thai tea check in. Pad see ew noodle and spicy noodle are among my favorites.
(4)Leonard M.
I've eaten here 4 times in the past 2 months. The first 2 times it was pretty good. The third time the meal was disappointing - the food was not at all spicy. Thinking that might just have been a bad night for the cook, I decided to give it another (fourth) try. It was even more disappointing. I'm afraid this is a sign of decline. Each time I've eaten here, it's been with 3 other people. It wasn't just me that had a problem with the food. They serve Thai food. It's supposed to be spicy if you want it that way. One member of our group twice ordered her food 'very spicy' and both times it was mild. Everyone else on both occasions wanted their food medium spicy and there wasn't a hint of spiciness. The waitress did put little containers of chili and chili sauce on the table, but if the food is cooked with chilis, you shouldn't have to add anymore. I think the cook makes everything mild, regardless of how spicy you want the food, and then the customer is expected to doctor it up with the chilis at their table. That's not the way it's done. Don't ask me how spicy I want the food and then put something bland in front of me. If you want great Thai food, go to Koon Thai on Convoy in Kearny Mesa. Ironically, that restaurant and this one have the same owner, but unfortunately, not the same cook.

I have worked at restaurants and I understand how it is to be one waitress working the whole floor here its about 8 tables. Taking care of 8 parties is very hectic. I give the waitress 5 stars because of her service. Yeah she forgot somethings but its understandable. I originally ordered the boat house noodles which was completely bland and had no flavor it tasted like soup and water. I took like 3 bites to try to taste it but it wasn't working. I ask the waitress if I could switch my order and she did easily and efficiently! The fried rice was good though. Not the best thai food I've ever had but not the worst either
